Throwback Review: MCFARLANE TOYS - TERMINATOR 2
Thank you for stopping by and checking my throwback Thursday toy review. It's always a blast to show off my figures with ya, or as Jared Leto's Joker once said: "I can't wait to show you my toys". Today I'll be reviewing a "double feature" for Ya. I'll be taking a close look at McFarlane Toys Movie Maniacs 4: Terminator 2 Judgment Day T-1000 and T-800.
Released back 2001, during the McFarlane Toys heyday. For anyone who isn't familiar with Macfarlane Toys, before NECA became a household name, they basically revolutionized the action figure and collectible market by offering customers lifelike representation of their favorite characters come to life. With the Movie Maniacs line that went on for 7 series, from 1998 - 2004. After losing most of the licensing for most of the movie characters to NECA, they focused on sports and comic book characters. Fast forward 16 years later, you could say McFarlane Toys is back on the map with Fortnite, Mortal Combat, and just added to the roster DC Comics to their licensing.
Here we go!
Both figures are packed in the traditional "peg hang" cardboard backing, with a plastic cover encasing the figures. Both cardboard backings have movie artwork, and in the back, it shows the upcoming series of McFarlane Toy lines and the rest of The Movie Maniac 4 figures.
The T-1000 comes with two interchangeable torsos, two additional hook blade arms, a utility belt equipped with wally talky, pistol, and holster. Each torso has two arms and a separate head. T-800 comes with one pistol, a grenade launcher, a grenade shell belt, and a nifty pair of sunglasses. Both figures also come with a movie poster and stand for displaying.
I'll start by saying that McFarlane nailed it by lending Rober Patrick's likeness to the figure. They managed to capture the T-1000's facial expression after being blown apart by the T-800 with the grenade launcher. Also, the rest of the sculpt is detailed and the color of the police uniform is pretty spot on. The T-800 doesn't disappoint either, although we didn't get Arnold Schwarzenegger's face on the figure perhaps due to licensing issues, we still got a kick-ass T-800 that did share a likeness to the character. What I like about this T-800 is that his face seems to have severe tissue damage, which in my opinion adds a gore factor, which is awesome. The body sculpt has tons of detail, from bullet holes to the endoskeloten protruding outside the skin and clothes. The paint job adds to what we say in the movie.
Articulation of these figures are very limited but possible none the less. The T-1000 has rotation on both heads allowing left to right, both torsos can twist, arms turn at the shoulder, swivel cut at the legs, twist at the wrist, and ankles. T-800 also has similar articulation. Head rotates left to right, swivel cut at the shoulders, waist swivel as well, wrist rotation, and swivel cut above the thighs.
If you are a fan of movie accurate figures , you’ll love these. Although it will be a little challenging to source out these figures, what can I say they are over 15 years old. Ebay is a guaranteed source, or you can get lucky and find them at a local comic book or collectible outlet. Let us know you think of these McFarlane Toys gems, are you a fan? What is your favorite of the Movie Maniacs line?
