Director Mike Mendez Talks The Upcoming Release Of 'THE CONVENT' In 4K Through Synapse Films

There’s no doubt there are films still waiting to get a proper release out there. Many have been lost to time and honestly forgotten by many a horror fan. One company that is keeping us in our nostalgia is Synapse Films and they are bringing a fan favorite out of the darkness for a proper 4k release. The film in question is Mike Mendez’s ‘THE CONVENT.’

Synapse Films will begin pre-orders for its 4K UHD + Blu-ray release of THE CONVENT on Black Friday, with shipping intended to begin a week or so later. This limited-edition (4,000 units) combo with a special slipcover will feature a new 4K remaster of the uncut version supervised and approved by director Mike Mendez, mastered in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) and presented in 1.78:1 widescreen, with DTS-MA 5.1 Stereo Surround sound from the original 16-track audio masters.

Speaking of Mr. Mendez, we were able to get a statement from him regarding this release.

“I’m super excited about this release. There was a time not too long ago where I thought the movie might be lost forever, but I’m super happy to have companies like Synapse in my life that have taken the interest to restore the movie properly and in someways, make it better than ever,” Mendez said.

He continues: “This is a color correction, that I personally supervised, I put a lot of care & attention into the blood in the film both the human blood and the demon blood, but I swear it has never glowed brighter! Also, the soundtrack is a fully remastered 5.1 mix. And I can honestly say I don’t think the movie has ever sounded and looked better. I’m really excited for people to check it out!”

Scripted by Chaton Anderson, the movie stars Joanna Canton, Adrienne Barbeau, Liam Kyle Sullivan, Megahn Perry, Richard Trapp, Jim Golden, Dax Miller, Bill Moseley and Coolio.

The synopsis: “In 1960, a young woman named Christine enters St. Francis Boarding School for Girls and lays waste to the resident nuns. Four decades later, a group of college students head to the long-abandoned building late one night to tag it with their fraternity letters, little knowing that rumors of the place being haunted are terrifyingly true. Stir in a couple of disapproving cops and a band of unlikely Satanists, and the table is set for a feast of demonic infestation and bloodshed that only the grown-up Christine [Barbeau] can possibly stop.”
