Jason Blum Gives Update On Future Of 'THE EXORCIST' Franchise At Blumhouse

There’s no denying that last year’s THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER didn’t deliver the goods for fans at the box office for Blumhouse and Universal. Director David Gordon Green was initially on board to direct an entire trilogy of new movies in the franchise, with The Exorcist: Believer intended to be only the first film in that three-film sequel series.

This was a major deal for Blumhouse and Universal (somewhere in the range of $400 million) and already had the sequel ‘THE EXORCIST: DECEIVER’ set up for a April 18, 2025 release.

Like most things in Hollywood, things changed from that original idea. David Gordon Green is out to direct “Deceiver” and the film as whole and even the franchise might be just a one off.

So what’s next for Blumhouse and Universal to do with a fan favorite franchise and its loyal and die-hard fans who just want a great “EXORCIST” flick?

t’s a question that even producer Jason Blum isn’t sure how to answer. Speaking with The Direct this week, Blum suggested that the original plan is being entirely retooled.

Blum explained in a recent red carpet chat…

“We are definitely going to make another Exorcist movie, but I wanted more time to figure out what it would be. I have no idea what it’s going to be yet.”

Given the $400 million spend, Blumhouse and Universal likely have no choice but to make two more Exorcist movies, but it sounds like the next one may hit the reboot button all over again. This would be a waste in our opinion but hey, what do we know.

Stay tuned for more as we learn it.
