"DANGEROUS ANIMALS" (2025) Introduces The First Shark-Obsessed Serial Killer (TRAILER)
Animalsploitation and serial killers are the kind of juxtaposition that only someone like Sean Byrne’s could’ve worked up. The two genres have little in common besides blood and a body count, but the filmmaker behind such modern classics like “The Devil’s Candy” and “The Loved Ones” is no stranger to transgressive and confrontational horror. “The Loved Ones” is an exercise in tension that will have you white-knuckling through the majority of the runtime, and “The Devil’s Candy” is one of the most diabolically devilish films that still doesn’t get all the flowers that it deserves. Seriously, go watch it if you haven’t seen it and you may even be inclined to suspect some familiarity with the more recent “Longlegs” despite “The Devil’s Candy” preceding it by years.
The latest from Byrne is “Dangerous Animals” and the meaning is two-fold as in there are sharks, and then a man who may be as or even more dangerous than what lurks in the water. The synopsis for the film is as follows:
When Zephyr, a rebellious surfer, is abducted by a shark-obsessed serial killer and held captive on his boat, she must figure out how to escape before he carries out a ritualistic feeding to the sharks below.
Check out the trailer more to get a glimpse of the uncanny harmony of people-eating sharks and a serial killer who uses those titans of the ocean as his weapon of choice. “Dangerous Animals” will hit theaters on June 6, 2025, from IFC Films and Shudder!
