EVENT REPORT: The Original MISFITS, Megadeth, and FEAR Take Over Tampa, Florida

Saturday, June 24th, The original Misfits, Megadeth, and FEAR took the stage at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa, Florida.

Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only, and Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein are back with a short run of shows this Summer. Tampa was the first on the list, following their home state of New Jersey on July 8th at the Prudential Center in Newark, and at the Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre in Phoenix, Arizona on July 15th. With support from FEAR, Megadeth, AFI, and The Gaslight Anthem. Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Mr.Bungle) will be joining the trio on the drums, and Acey Slade (Acey Slade & the Dark Party) will be on rhythm guitar.

For over 40 years, Misfits have been a staple in building the horror punk/punk rock scene. As time has passed by, they are still just as relevant and have a forever dedicated fanbase. Judging by the size of the crowd that was there Saturday night, that statement proves true. After seeing them perform this past weekend, I can see why their following is so strong; the energy that they bring is infectious.

Classic horror film visuals played over the mega screens and the Crimson Ghost was prominently displayed, along with two giant pumpkins; always a nice touch. The amount of shows they play is pretty scarce these days, so it’s always a pleasure seeing them.

All the classic songs us “fiends” love was played at breakneck speeds, just the way we wanted them to be. From their early single “Bullet” to later thrash staples like “Green Hell” and “Mommy, Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight”, the Misfits did not disappoint. For years it was said that Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only could not, should not, and will not ever be on stage together again for a Misfits reunion. Well, times changed and when the fiends and money talks, we knew we’d see the original Horror punk legends come back for one more round of “Horror Business.”

No further performances have been announced as of yet but we’re only four months away from The Misfits (and our) favorite holiday, Halloween, so we might just get some more show announcements soon. Here’s hoping. We highly recommend you check these punk rock legends out if ya get a chance.
