'EVIL DEAD RISE' Slaughters At The Box Office With $23.5 Million Opening Weekend

The Evil Dead franchise that director Sam Raimi built is one horror fans have loved since the first fil was released. Fans of Evil Dead are, to put it nicely, ravenous, for anything Evil Dead related and the box office numbers for the latest chapter in the franchise, Evil Dead Rise, surely proved that this weekend.

Released into theaters beginning with Thursday night preview screenings, Evil Dead Rise swallowed up an estimated $23.5 million at the domestic box office this weekend.

Evil Dead Rise had an estimated production budget of just $19 million, which should allow the film to become profitable at the box office in the coming weeks.

Here’s a bit of a history lesson for you primitive screwheads.

Back in 2013, Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead similarly opened to $25 million domestically, and that film ended up making $54 million domestically and $97 million worldwide.

Both films are general accessible by fans and even the laymen movie goer so we shall see what the numbers reveal as the weeks progress.

The math is very simple for more Evil Dead films to be made. If Evil Dead Rise does well, exceeds it’s expected turn over rate, and pulls in a hefty profit margin from what production costs were, we’re going to get more Evil Dead.

Bruce Campbell even suggested so.

We’re going to try and do them more like every two or three years rather than every 10 years. You can read his full interview by clicking the link.
