Filming Has Officially Begun On 'FACES OF DEATH' Remake
The totally unexpected (and partially unwanted) remake of ‘FACES OF DEATH’ has officially begun filming this week. Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber are writing and directing the brand new Faces of Death
While we wait for any real news regarding the film, here’s what we know so far.
Legendary Entertainment is behind the Faces of Death relaunch, which has Dacre Montgomery (“Stranger Things”), Barbie Ferreira (“Euphoria”) and Josie Totah (“Saved by the Bell”) set to star. The question still remains, how is Legendary going to remake a film like Faces?
“Faces of Death was one of the first viral video tapes, and we are so lucky to be able to use it as a jumping off point for this exploration of cycles of violence and the way they perpetuate themselves online,” said Mazzei and Goldhaber in a recent statement.
“The new plot revolves around a female moderator of a YouTube-like website, whose job is to weed out offensive and violent content and who herself is recovering from a serious trauma, that stumbles across a group that is recreating the murders from the original film. But in the story primed for the digital age and age of online misinformation, the question faced is are the murders real or fake?”
The original Faces of Death, released in 1978, is one of the most infamous films of all time, allegedly showcasing real footage of real death. In reality though, all the deaths in the film were well thought out makeup effects matched with real footage. You could say this was an early predecessor to the “found footage” genre.
We’ll bring ya more as it develops.
