Horror Comes Home At THE BROOKLYN BOOKS AND BOOS EVENT! (EVENT RECAP)

Macabre Daily is dedicated to helping horror fans across the globe find their people and to support this effort we’ll be bringing you coverage of the remarkable horror events happening today. Contributors Sean O’Connor, Shannon Bushmann and Lowell Greenblatt recently had the pleasure of attending the BROOKLYN BOOKS AND BOOS EVENT held at the WILD EAST BREWERY, home to some of the best beer brewed in Brooklyn (try the Funhaus German-style Pilsner, trust us) and hosted by the BROOKLYN HORROR SOCIETY and THE TWISTED SPINE BOOKSTORE.  Two of the most exciting and unique horror associations in the Tri-State Area. They came together to co-sponsor this incredible event which featured 3 rounds of readings by some of today's most exciting and dynamic horror authors.

The atmosphere at the brewery was less book-reading and more impromptu partying.  Some of the authors, as well as the hosts, had tables set up to sell their novels, stickers, and various merchandise but all the authors eventually found themselves grabbing beers and mingling with the crowd, talking books, joking, and having a great time.  The vibe was so lighthearted and laid back you would think this was a backyard bar-b-que and not a forum for Clay Mcleod Chapman to perform “Nails” an ode to a claw hammer covered in rust, or is that blood?

Beers and laughs aside, horror was why people came and horror was what they got. The first round of readers consisted of Marc L. Abbott, Emily Ruth Verona, and Joshua Pangborn who immediately set the tone for the afternoon with readings alternating between dread and hilarity, the authors feeding off the vibe of the crowd, who were visibly thrilled with every performance.

Round Two consisted of Mona Kabbani. Nat Cassidy and Meg Ripley with Nat performing an amazingly horrific song for the crowd that fit perfectly with the vibe. Mona and Meg chilled the audience with their readings and reminded everyone that they were all there for no-stop chills. Between readings everyone there was able to learn more about the phenomenal hosts for the day, THE TWISTED SPINE had everyone beyond excited with their plans to eventually open the first bookstore dedicated solely to horror and dark literature in Manhattan and THE BROOKLYN HORROR SOCIETY absolutely recruited more members for their amazing trivia nights and movie watch parties across the borough.

The final round had Erin E. Adams read from her smash hit novel JACKAL, Joseph Pesavento terrifying everyone with a haunted bike ride and Clay Mcleod Chapman making sure everyone left with goosebumps.  Each and every one of these authors brought the scares and we would all agree that it was over too quickly.  Luckily the hosts have promised more events like this in the future.  We’ll keep you posted.  (To purchase any of these amazing authors' works please click the link here
