Exciting updates are finally emerging about Peacock’s highly anticipated “Friday the 13th” prequel series, "Crystal Lake." The latest confirmation? Linda Cardellini has officially been cast as the iconic Pamela Voorhees. Get all the details below!

There hasn’t been much news regarding Peacock and A24’s most anticipated series, “Crystal Lake”, but that has changed as of yesterday when our friends over at Variety picked up the news that Linda Cardellini (“Scooby Doo”, “Freaks And Geeks”)will be taking on some camp counselors as Pamela Voorhees. You may have heard about her son, Jason. He’s a pretty big deal today. Linda is no slouch when it comes to taking on big roles that have pop culture ties as she famously portrayed Velma Dinkley in both live action Scooby Doo films as well as played Laura Barton, Clint Barton’s (Hawkeye) wife in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For those who remember the origins of “Friday the 13th”, Betsy Palmer originally portrayed Pamela Voorhees in the 1980 classic. She served as the film’s unexpected killer, avenging the death of her son, Jason Voorhees, whom she believed drowned due to the negligence of camp counselors. In a shocking finale, Pamela meets a gruesome end when she is decapitated by the film’s final girl, Alice Hardy.

While her death seemingly marked the end of her story, it became the catalyst for Jason’s legendary killing spree, as later films suggest he witnessed his mother’s brutal demise—fueling his relentless quest for vengeance throughout the franchise.

Many people consider Jason Voorhees to be the ultimate villain of the “Friday the 13th” franchise, but we’d argue otherwise. If not for his mother, Pamela Voorhees, going on a murderous rampage against unsuspecting camp counselors, Jason’s reign of terror might never have begun. Her actions in the original 1980 film set the stage for his vengeful return, making Pamela the true catalyst behind the series' bloody legacy.

Now, after years of uncertainty, “Friday the 13th” is finally making its way back to the screen with "Crystal Lake," which is being executive-produced by A24 and original screenwriter Victor Miller. Miller’s involvement is particularly significant as the franchise has been stuck in legal battles for years.

Since the 2009 “Friday the 13th” remake, fans have been eager for a new film, but a lengthy rights dispute between Victor Miller and producer Sean S. Cunningham (director of the original film) brought the franchise to a standstill. After a prolonged legal battle, Miller won the U.S. rights to the original film’s screenplay, but complications remained—most notably, the split in ownership between domestic and international rights, as well as the issue of Jason’s hockey mask-wearing adult persona, which wasn’t introduced until later films. All of this added up to Jason not being seen on the silver screen for over a decade now.

With “Crystal Lake” moving forward under Miller’s oversight, it seems the long-standing legal turmoil is finally giving way to new life for the franchise. While it remains to be seen how A24 will expand the mythology, one thing is certain—Pamela Voorhees is once again stepping into the spotlight, proving that before Jason became an icon, his mother was the true nightmare at Camp Crystal Lake.

Keep it here for all things “CRYSTAL LAKE” as we get them.
