"LONGLEGS" Has Become NEON's Highest-Grossing Film Ever!

Longlegs from NEON

Historically speaking, horror rarely disappoints at the box office. Despite decades of people dismissing and discounting the genre, one thing that no one can ever take away is just how financially successful these films generally tend to be. Many have opined as to why this may be with the most popular theories centering around our human desire for the macabre combined with the often lower budgets that horror films have as two reasons for the high returns. That success has propelled studios like Universal Studios in the 30s and 40s, New Line Cinemas in the 80s and 90s, and now A24 In the 00s. Not to be left behind, NEON now enters the fray with a string of extremely successful and Academy Award-winning films over the last 10 years, and they’ve broken a record with Osgood PerkinsLonglegs.

First reported on over at Deadline they surmise that “Longlegs” has reached $58.6 Million over its three weeks in theaters, which surpasses the previous film Parasite which saw $53.37 in box office cash. From the Deadline article:

“Now in week 3, the Osgood Perkins pic is also the top-grossing R-rated horror of 2024 and the highest-grossing indie horror film of the last ten years, topping A24’s Talk To Me, Insidious Chapter 3 from Universal’s Focus, and A24’s Hereditary. It’s no. 5 at the domestic box office.”

This is great news for horror fans no matter how you felt about the movie (read our review here) and with NEON set to release Cuckoo with Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens in the coming weeks, it is fair to say that NEON and horror are a perfect match. and we hope to see similar if not greater success for the upcoming Tilman Singer film.
