-NECA-

After finishing off October’s 31 Nights of Fright with buckets of hints and sneak peeks at upcoming figures, Neca has certainly earned a well deserved break from announcing any new pre-orders, but there’s always something brewing just around a dark corner. Continuing their killer execution of classic cinema creatures is the new Universal Monsters Ultimate Mummy based on the original 1932 film. This version will be colorized, while photos of a black and white version have been shown on Neca’s official Twitter account.

Capturing every meticulous nuance of the painstakingly applied makeup effects, the likeness to Boris Karloff is striking, as Neca once again masterfully recreates another moment in movie history. Boris comes packed with accessories including two extra hands, an egyptian scroll and gilded chest, and two additional heads for an accurately limited range of expression. From sleeping, to awake, to awake and angry, Neca continues to artfully craft the many faces of Karloff. Expected release is January of 2022, in celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Universal classic.

Need more monsters? You know Neca’s got you covered! This time for an 80th anniversary, the Universal Monsters Ultimate Wolf Man based on the 1941 moving picture. Featuring the likeness of Lon Chaney Jr. as Lawrence Talbot as well as his cursed counterpart, this figure comes with a full set of interchangeable hands and feet as well as heads to allow a complete transformation from man to monster, replicating the simple but effective practical effects of the film. Also included are Talbot’s signature walking cane and a bear trap, this legendary lycan is dying to be the centerpiece of some misty moonlit graveyard scene.

Need more werewolves? That was rhetorical, the answer is always yes. While it was revealed back in May, the Neca ‘An American Werewolf In London’ Ultimate Kessler Werewolf is finally seeing the light of day as its ship date draws nearer. One of the most memorable lycanthropes in horror movie history, designed by legendary effects artist Rick Baker, the Kessler Wolf is a genuinely unsettling creature. Piercing yellow eyes leer past a gaping maw of teeth and blood as this haunting hell hound stares into your heart with a fiendish hunger. Get this barrel of nightmare fuel pre-ordered today, just in time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film’s release.

Throughout the month of October Neca continually released new images hinting at upcoming figures, projects, and products of all kinds, promising much more to come going into 2022. To round it all up we compiled a gallery of all our favorite reveals and teases during their 31 Nights of Fright, including more Gargoyles, more Gremlins, and of course more Universal Monsters with the first official images of the Ultimate Dracula based on Bela Lugosi.

-Mezco-

This week we wanted to spotlight an upcoming One:12 Collective release as Mezco takes their stab at the titular Alien from the initial 1979 film. Designed by H. R. Geiger, several companies have brought the iconic Xenomorph to life in plastic with varying degrees of success, most notably Neca Toys with an impressive execution over several years of iteration, leaving fans wondering how Mezco will make their offering exceptional enough to warrant the expectedly higher price point. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Mezco intends to come out swinging with their first effort, boasting a deep assortment of accessories and film-quality detail on an all new seamless body. Ideally this will appear as close as possible to the original suit worn by the actor playing the creature in the movie, setting this figure apart with stunning realism and attention to detail. Only time will tell if the final product holds up when it releases in March of 2022.

-McFarlane Toys-

The next wave of Spawn Universe figures have been unveiled by the Todd-father himself, featuring Gunslinger Spawn, Dark Redeemer, and Soul Crusher. Gunslinger Spawn is a rerelease for those who missed out on the previous Target exclusive version. Essentially the same figure, this new release includes the gunslinger’s signature dual revolvers as well as a hefty gatling gun accessory instead of the original’s long range rifle. First appearing in Spawn issue #119 (2002), Gunslinger Spawn has been a fan favorite design for years with its expressive stylization of western archetypes. This three dimensional figure evokes a graphic quality of McFarlane’s art style in an uncanny way that makes it feel as if it’s popped right out of a comic panel.

Making his debut appearance way back in Spawn issue #31 (1995), Redeemer is a frequent antagonist of Spawn with an undeniably cool design. This black and silver variant features a muted color palette compared to the original bright blue and gold, offering a more subdued, but no less imposing presence. The articulated wings are shaded with a dark wash that brings out the intense amount of dedicated sculpting in each individual feather.

Appearing first in Spawn issue #272 (2017) Soul Crusher is a more recent addition to the Spawn universe, marking this as the first figure released of the character. Depicted as an ultra-violent vigilante, Soul Crusher leaves gas masks on the bodies of his victims as a grizzly calling card, alluding to his mastery of toxic gases and firearms. Packed with multiple weapons and an excessive amount of minute details, this mysterious drifter will complement any post-apocalyptic wasteland with style.
