MID-APRIL ROUNDUP: Kickstarters And Strangeness Of Every Flavour!

April is looking energetic and varied, with a couple of successful Kickstarters still available for entry, and a new alien invasion comic already available on the digital ‘shelf’. Perfect for looking forward to the Easter holidays.

“Frost Road”: an ambitious and strange apocalypse filled with character and madness.

“Frost Road” is the latest project from PCB Entertainment, Keith Arem (Call of Duty Performance Director), and Christopher Shy (Dead Space Comic Artist). The same creative team behind Image Comics’ award-winning graphic novel, Ascend. The thriller comic is best described as a high-intensity graphic novel that blends apocalyptic horror and suspense, perfect for fans of The Last of Us, A Quiet Place, & Silent Hill. It has been successfully funded on Kickstarter, but it is still open for backers.

Intended as a grounded science fiction, where the scope of the disaster is broad, but the struggle is personal as people fight against the madness that is attacking their minds and bodies.

The story of “Frost Road” is described as: “A small coastal town is devastated by an invisible contagion. A man awakens from a car accident to discover he is one of the few survivors in the aftermath of a mysterious outbreak that has wiped out the small town of “Frost Road”. Somehow immune to the deadly waves, he tries to save the remaining survivors from themselves, as he desperately struggles to prevent the deadly signal from spreading across the planet.”

““Frost Road” draws inspiration from real events impacting our oceans and marine life,” says creator Keith Arem. “I wanted to explore the horror and tragedy of these issues in a way that resonates on a deeply human level.“

With grisly and frenetic art that resembles the atmosphere of work like 30 Days of Night, and a story both contemporary and harrowing, this should be a great addition to fans of survival horror stories that have less discrete dangers.

The Kickstart campaign closed, and thankfully reached it’s goal, and you can read our interview with writer/creator Keith Arem from earlier this month!

“Far-Fetched”: a new quirky animated comedy for lovers of rock and monsters.

Writer Dave Capdevielle and animator Ashley Nichols are teaming up to create “Far-Fetched”. Available on Kickstarter, with Iron Circus’ Spike Trotman consulting on the campaign, jam-packed with special rewards, including a book full of comics and developmental art, early access to the screening and Q&A, music by the cartoon fictional band Sesamoid, exclusive signed prints, custom sketches, and much more.

“Far-Fetched” is described as an animated horror comedy about a rock band of misfits filming a music video that’s so lame, monsters try to kill them. The story is about Rue, a walking quarter-life crisis and proud new owner of a mistakenly unleashed DeviantArt sparkle-creature named Kira. Her childhood friend, and hubris incarnate, Quinn, drags her into his band, Sesamoid. There she makes new friends with the other band members, Piper, Warren and Griff. The gang embark on a rocky road to relevance in an ancient ice cream truck, but soon learn their hometown of Veilport is far more than meets the eye, becoming unwilling participants in a battle between science and the supernatural.

So far, the Kickstarter Campaign has nearly accumulated twice its goal in funding and still has more than 20 days remaining to hit its mysterious list of stretch goals.

Like a mix of Hazbin Hotel, Scooby Doo, and Josie and the Pussycats, this is great ground entry on a new quirky, supernatural series that is already drawing a lot of attention. Check out the trailer HERE.

“Alienated”: An odd-ball and mysterious alien invasion that doesn’t look like it went to plan.

The latest Comixology Originals release is a twist on a very old-school tale, written by Taki Soma, who is best known for her work on Bitch Planet, Rapture, The Victories, Dick Tracy, Iron Man, and the autobiographical comic Sleeping While Standing, and drawn by artist John Broglia, whose most recent work includes Nice Jewish Boys.

In “Alienated”, the world wakes one morning to the news of alien contact. Finally. But they are all dead...except for one. What does it want, why did they arrive, and why did they all perish? When TJ, a retired teacher, and his grandkids come in contact with the alien, they are determined to protect it and find some answers.

Looking like a mix between Steven Spielberg’s E.T. and M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs, and considering the history of the creative talent behind it, this is a comic to check out for fans of classic alien invasion or conspiracy stories.

“Alienated” was just released last week (April 8th), so you can pick it up now from Amazon.
