Shout It From the Rooftops! The Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy Is Popping Up Near You!
A dark room, delicious themes drinks, costumed servers, and four of Edgar Allan Poe’s greatest stories masterfully performed? Yeah. You are not going to want to miss this!
I am of course talking about the Edgar Edgar Allan Poe Cocktail Experience Poe Cocktail Experience! Traveling from city to city across the United States and Worldwide. Bringing to life a chilling cocktail experience dedicated to everyone’s favorite father of poetic horror, Edgar Allen Poe. Four of his most famous stories are retold by Poe Historian performers. Their “Macabre Mixologist” crafts special drinks that complement each tale of terror.
I had the privilege of attending a sold-out performance of this event with my fellow horror lover and co-host of Slash & Slay: A Horror Podcast. As two young horror-lovin’ gals who live in a conservative suburbia, we jumped at the opportunity to experience a little bit of fright on a Friday night.
When we arrived, we were immediately greeted with a sinister salutation and escorted to our seats by the emcee. With zero expectations and a craving for some cocktails paired with tall tails, we took our seats in the dark speakeasy packed with Poe aficionados.
With a flourish, the emcee took the stage and told the story of young Edgar Allan Poe before introducing the first story and cocktail of the same name, The Pale Blue Eye. In true Poe fashion, the performance was dramatic, emotive, and thrilling. The audience seemed to be totally enthralled despite the distraction of the delicious spirits.
As the story came to a dramatic end and the final words hung in the air, the performer walked off stage. After giving an incredible performance, he casually began collecting glasses from the audience.
In between stories, our emcee continued telling the story of Edgar Allan Poe’s life as well as offering delightful comedic relief.
The next three stories were as wonderfully performed as the last. Edgar’s Twisted Brandy Milk Punch was served as the story of The Black Cat was performed. Next, The Nevermore cocktail was served as the performer succeeded in acting the infamous story of The Raven. Lastly, the Cocktail of Red Death finished out the night as the entire cast performed The Mask of the Red Death together. After a robust round of applause and standing ovation, the incredible Poe Historians took photos with the audience and answered questions about the poet.
An hour and a half of fantastic storytelling, brilliant performances, delicious cocktails, Poe lore, and macabre memories. What more could you ask for?! Check to see if they are visiting a city near you and for a more in-depth review, listen to our review episode on Slash & Slay: A Horror Podcast!

Jordan von Netzer considers himself to be a horror aficionado, with a particular love for 90's slashers. He enjoys talking about anything that has to do with the entertainment industry. Fun fact, he did his final college Film & Video Studies paper over Alfred Hitchcock and Wes Craven. In 2011, he met Wes at the Scream 4 premiere and got to tell him all about it.
