Sigourney Weaver Has No Interest In Returning To Space To Play Ellen Ripley One Last Time

Yesterday was ALIEN DAY aka 4/26 (LV426 was where the original ALIEN crew landed on and the sequel, ALIENS, took place.) and it wouldn’t be a celebration without some words from our favorite intergalactic bug killer, Sigourney Weaver. Weaver famously played Ellen Ripley in the first four Alien films (Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien Resurrection.) And even though a lot of older franchises are coming back, Weaver has no interest in reprising her role in that universe.

There was a time however that she would have been interested in a return she admits, but it looks like that time has passed.

Speaking with Total Film she says:

“There are all kinds of younger actors taking this kind of role. And there was an Alien [film] that I really wanted to do with Neill Blomkamp and we didn’t get to do that, but, you know, that ship has sailed. I’m very happy doing what I’m doing. I put in my time in space, I think Ridley Scott has a lot to do with the longevity of Ellen Ripley and Alien. They made Ripley a woman, without making her this helpless creature. Because I think I was very lucky. These were men who were creating this woman character, but they liked and respected strong women.”

Her time in space maybe done but that doesn’t mean she is done acting. She has a role coming up in James Cameron’s Avatar 3 as well as reprising her role of Dana Barrett for upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel.
