STARSEED: The Bone Orchard Mythos Takes Terror Into Outer Space

The Bone Orchard Mythos, created by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino, will take a big leap in October with their latest story, Starseed. Inspired by the ubiquitous Cthulhu Mythos, Jeff and Andrea have been pursuing the idea of a series of seemingly stand-alone horror stories tied together with a shared mythology, The Bone Orchard Mythos. Started in 2022 with The Passageway and Ten Thousand Black Feathers, they followed up with the ongoing series Tenement in 2023.

While all of these previous stories had been Earth-based, their latest addition will be heading into the depths of space. When an exploration team sent to Mars goes missing, a seven-person rescue team is sent to find them. What they find in the darkness will go far beyond scientific comprehension. Perfect for horror/science fiction fans, it is described as a mashup of Alien, The Event Horizon, and Jeff Vandermeer’s Annihilation.

“We wanted to take the horror of The Bone Orchard Mythos to a whole new setting, and Andrea and I both love sci-fi and cosmic horror," said Lemire. "This is a critical book in the mythos and readers won't see the ending coming.”

Sorrentino added: "As a huge fan of the Alien franchise I couldn't wait to finally work on some horror sci-fi, and Starseed incarnates all that I love about the genre: isolation, atmosphere, and a big dose of fear of the unknown."
