The Beauty Industry Has Never Looked More Terrifying Than In "THE SUBSTANCE" (TRAILER)

Even before social media, the world has always held people up to unrealistic standards of beauty. While this issue crosses gender boundaries, it is far more pronounced with women than it is with men and influencer culture hasn’t done us any favors with regards to moving the needle in a more positive direction. The beauty industry itself has always been a parasitic industry that feeds off youth and discards the person when they are no longer “attractive” enough to be a spokesperson or model. Horror has dabbled in this space before, and “The Substance” by Director Coralie Fargeat (“Revenge”) is doing so while doubling down!

The most recent trailer for the upcoming body horror film features Demi Moore as an aging fitness instructor who uses a wonder serum to rejuvenate her youth and stay viable in a cutthroat and vapid industry. The trailer gives us just enough to get us excited without ever divulging enough to ruin the surprises, so we are more than optimistic that this will be one of the best horror films of 2024.
