The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival Returns next month with a Killer Roster!

For genre fans in the NYC area, it’s becoming a new October tradition to check out the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival.  Last year it showed some heavy horror hitters like “Stopmotion” and “Where the Devil Roams,” as well as a screening of “Maniac Cop” with William Lustig, himself in attendance. it looks like 2024 is shaping up to be just as big, if not bigger.

From October 17th-24th, the two Nitehawk Cinemas in the borough will be showing some of the most anticipated horror films of the year, such as the indie darling “Birdeater,” the opening night film “Dead Mail,” Maury and Bustillo’s latest “The Soul Eater,” and the East coast premiere of Elric Kane’s “The Dead Thing!”

Aside from narrative features, the festival is also showing some great docs.  Friend of Macabre Daily Ariel Powers-Schaub, whose book “Millennial Nasties” releases today, is a major contributor to “Generation Terror,” a new documentary about horror in the 2000s that made waves just recently at Fright Fest.  Also “Exorcismo,” a look at post-Francisco era Spanish horror narrated by the godfather of punk, Iggy Pop! (yes, I know this is New York, and I’m contractually obligated to say the godfathers were the Ramones, but let’s be real).

There will also be exhibition screenings of both NY-based urban vampire staples Abel Ferrara’s “The Addiction” and Larry Fessenden’s “Habit.”  Fessenden will be there in person for a Q&A moderated by Jenn Wexler, director of “The Ranger” and last year’s “The Sacrifice Game.”  Not to mention a plethora of shorts, the return of Final Exam Horror Trivia, and a lecture from the Miskatonic Institute of Horror on Queer Vampires, Queer Liberation, and Queer Futurity.  Plus, Nitehawk is one of the best places to see movies in Brooklyn.  It’s not to be missed.
