The Team Behind Grimdark Fantasy "GALLOWMERE" (2025) Prepares For A Bold Adventure (INTERVIEW)
In the Venn Diagram of genre films, there is some significant overlap between the worlds of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy in that they intend to immerse you in another reality. For fantasy fans, immersion is a big deal as so many have roots in tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons or Warhammer where immersion isn’t just the point, it's also the purpose. Roleplaying games in general seek to bring the player safely into the driver’s seat much like how horror allows viewers to confront fears through the security of the screen. This kind of world building is essential to the experience, but can often feel prohibitive for independent filmmakers who want to execute their fantasical visions, but don’t tell that to the folks behind the upcoming Grimdark Fantasy film, “Gallowmere.”
Co-writer/Director Oliver Hollingdale, Co-writer/Actor Craig Standen, and Actor Martin Portlock (from the diabolically good “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare”) won’t let big ideas and smaller budgets stand in the way of bringing their vision to life, and after 3 years in production the team is getting ready to introduce the rest of the world to “Gallowmere.” The lads were generous enough to spend some time with us here at Macabre Daily to talk about the film, the inspirations, and the process of making high-concept grimdark fantasy using the great outdoors, lots of teamwork, and a wealth of experience in the film industry. “Gallowere” is going to be touring film festivals this year, and you can follow the journey over at the film’s official website (https://www.gallowmerethemovie.com/) which has a host of concept art, background, and information for the fantastically curious!
