Top 5 Advanced Hostile E.T.s'

waroftheworlds2.jpg

One can argue that many extraterrestrials are regarded as hostile, of course, there are plenty! Since

the introduction of the original 1951s, The Thing. Better known as The Thing From Another World

(and no, John Carpenter’s 1982 The Thing is not the original), there have been countless films of

hostile extraterrestrials vaporizing, zapping, probing, impregnating, or even deboning us humans for

planetary domination. But what extraterrestrial species or entity in cinema is considered the biggest threat to humanity’s existence?

Before I dive in and give you my list, I am excluding movies that are based on “other worlds” where humans have established contact or have a symbiotic relationship with other life forms. I’ll only

concentrate on present-day scenario movies where humans are the dominant species. Hits,

extraterrestrials that pose the biggest threat to human existence. Sorry, no Star Wars or Star Trek on this list although The Borg from the Star Trek lore is undisputedly the most hostile in all of science

fiction fabrication, we’ll have to bookmark that topic for future articles. Also, massive spoilers ahead.

You’ve been warned.

Let’s dive in

5. the Tall Green Aliens from 2002s Signs.

Written and Directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

This race of extraterrestrial was never given a name or origin to identify, so I’ve taken the liberty of

calling them “The Tall Green Alien”. This race of extraterrestrial is equipped with superhuman

strength, poses the ability to leap onto a two-story building with ease, built-in bio weaponry, and

pixelation altering abilities to camouflage with the environment. The reason they come in at five is

simply that they sealed their fate when they decided to take over a planet that is 71% percent water,

their only weakness, and apparently, they can easily get trapped in kitchen pantries.

4. The Martians from 2005’s War Of The Worlds.

Directed by Steven Spielberg.

This 2005 adaptation of the 1953s War of the world is similar but thanks to CGI, this time they were truly able to showcase the advanced weapons the Martians wheeled. Using what appears to be militarized vehicles called “ tripods”, they can disintegrate and pulverize humans in an instant. Surprisingly, when you didn’t think that was enough, the Tripods can also use human blood and tissue to terraform the planet… how fun. And of course, not before they shut down our electrical power grid, leaving us completely vulnerable. Like their predecessors before, they didn’t do all the research before messing with mother earth. The only thing capable of bringing these Martians to their three knees was a germ.

Small, unnoticeable germs. And us humans are chock-full of germs, and we know this from childhood.

They called them “koodies”.

3. The aliens from 1996 Independence Day.

Directed by Roland Emmerich and written by Dean Devlin.

This race of extraterrestrial, in my opinion, could quite easily be ranked most hostile do to their ability to coordinate a strategic plan of attacks with non-negotiable motives, biomechanical armored suites equipped with multiple limbs for hand to hand combat, plasma shooting attack ships for aerial dog fights, and most impressive is their global scale weapon that make nuclear missiles look like water guns. However, the thing that took down this hostile race was a computer virus. Who knew that a spamming email would be the world’s last hope.

2. Yautja from 1987s Predator.

Directed by John McTiernan and written by James E. Thomas.

What can I say, the Predator is one bad mo-fo. This extraterrestrial possesses un-humanly

physical abilities that dwarf our greatest athletes. Over 7 feet tall, he can effortlessly jump and leap

over lush jungle terrain, lift and carry full-grown men’s bodies like rag dolls, and pull out a person’s

spinal cord without it falling apart all while remaining unseen. His impressive arsenal of weapons

ranges from cloaking technology allowing him to bend light, infrared heat detection vision, plasma

blaster, voice manipulating technology, and super sharp wrist blade that cut through people like a hot

knife to butter. He alone took down a platoon of trained militants in a matter of hours. We now know

what one Yautja is capable of doing, could you imagine what a full-scale invasion would look like?

Yikes! Just glad that he hunts for sport and not colonization. A difficult adversary, but in the end, it

was mud that defeated this hostile. Again mother nature provides.

1. (drumroll please) The Thing from 1982s The Thing.

Directed by John Carpenter.

Based on the 1938 novella Who Goes There by John W. Campbell, Jr. Not a whole lot is known about

the origins of the creature, it may or may not have been piloting the space ship that crash-landed on

earth. But fan theory suggests it wasn’t the owner of the space ship and imply it was more of a

primitive organism that escaped. However, I will take The Thing lore at face value and assume it was

the piolet of the space ship and consider it an advanced extraterrestrial race capable of intergalactic

travel. Unlike the other extraterrestrials on this list, The Thing is unique because it doesn’t rely on

advanced weapons and tactics for a hostile takeover. Its motivation is survival, and survival could be

detrimental to another species as proven in the story. The Thing uses microorganism physiological

adaptation to change its form to just about anything from just about any organic life form. We saw

what one Thing did in remote isolation, could you imagine several in a densely populated area. The

only thing that can kill or slow down this extraterrestrial is extreme elements like fire or ice, which is

still not entirely known if that actually kills it or puts it back to its dormant state. We still haven’t seen

the Things full potential, one can only wish for a sequel that expands on the lore.

That’s my list for ya, let us know (given the right criteria) if you agree with this list. Or perhaps we

missed a species that didn’t make this list. Also, who’s your favorite advanced hostile extraterrestrial?

Let us know.
