"VERGE OF REMEMBRANCE" Filmmaker and Actor Ashley-Lauren Elrod Talks About Making Horror Out Of Trauma (INTERVIEW)
The horror genre has always been uniquely positioned as a metaphor for real-world harm and traumatic events. Much of this has to do with horror being an outlet of expression where thoughts can take the shape of literal and/or figurative monsters that terrorize fictional characters posing as proxies for real people. Filmmakers like Ari Aster and Natalie Erika James have used the genre to grapple with the relationship between our mental health and the imagined horrors on screen and have done so to great effect given the destigmatization of discussing mental health. One filmmaker who is using her own past to inform her work on screen is Ashley-Lauren Elrod.
Ashley-Lauren Elrod is an indie award-winning seasoned actress, marketing, and media maven, multi-talented filmmaker, and BMI Affiliated singer-songwriter. She has been publicly recognized in features such as Refinery 29, WCIU, MTV.COM, Vibe Magazine, and Peer Step Magazine, just to name a few. Originally from the "Windy City" of Chicago, this sassy dynamic dynamo has credits under her belt including BET's North of the 10, Fox's The Mob Doctor, Award Winning Indie The Alley Cat, and Amazon's Followed, just to name a few.
Ashley-Lauren is also one of the founders of Visionary Woman Productions and is currently raising funds for her psychological thriller short film, Verge of Remembrance.
