Christian Tabdrup And Focus Features Team For "AUDITION" Remake

Everything old is new, at least that’s what it feels like these days with the constant barrage of nostalgia-fueled reboots and remakes. Don’t get us wrong, we aren’t anti-remake, and the abundance of great indie horror is a blessing, but one has to wonder sometimes if larger studios are scared of new ideas. Riding the success of their “Nosferatu” remake, Focus Features is once again going back to the memory well with the recent news that they will work with Christian Tafrdup (“Speak No Evil” 2022) and Cineverse (who are the money people behind “Terrifer”) are stepping in to Executive Produce.

Deadline first reported on this news and shared that Christian would be working with his brother and previous collaborator, Mads Tafbrdup to help with co-writing. It’s still early days so details are mum, and the Deadline article makes it clear that this is an adaptation of the 1997 novel by Ryū Murakami rather than a reboot of the Takashi Miike adaptation from 1999. Miike’s film is often considered a classic amongst film lovers and is often praised for its slow-burn drama and quick pivot to hyper-violent insanity. Miike’s interpretation isn’t just considered a great film, but one of the filmmaker’s best across over 100 plus feature films.

We haven’t read the original story, so we don’t want to cast this remake out on the news alone, but it is fair to say that Tafdrup is a good choice and regardless of how much we love the original, we will give this one a fair shake!
