CHRISTINA RICCI RETURNING TO THE ADDAMS FAMILY! WILL APPEAR IN NEW ‘WEDNESDAY’ SERIES FROM TIM BURTON
Addams Family fans, it’s time to break out your guillotines and goth wear, because Christina Ricci will star in Netflix’s upcoming Tim Burton series, WEDNESDAY, according to a Deadline exclusive.
Ricci, who portrayed the famous hump-day titled character in the Barry Sonenfeld-directed films of the 1990’s, will be a major part of the live-action show for the streaming service.
Details of her role are being kept under wraps for now, but according to Deadline, Ricci will be playing a new character, and not an older version of Wednesday.
Nellie Andreeva of Deadline reported of the casting: “I hear Ricci was brought following Thora Birch’s exit amid production. Ricci is playing a new character, who is similar to the one originally played by Birch and will replace her on the show. Ricci has been quietly working on Wednesday for weeks; filming on the MGM-produced series is slated to wrap in Romania at the end of the month.”
The series, being touted as a coming-of-age comedy, following Wednesday during her years at Nevermore Academy, also stars Jenny Ortega (Scream 2022, X) as Wednesday, Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago, Mask of Zorro) as Morticia, and Luis Guzmán (Boogie Nights, Carlito’s Way) as Gomez. The show will be written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar and will be directed by Tim Burton. Burton will also executive produce the show with Gough and Millar, who will serve as the series' showrunners.
As of now, there is no release date for the series, though a Fall 2022 release around Halloween would be very on-brand for the character. As ideal as that would be, It is more likely we won’t see the series drop until late 2022 or even early 2023.
