Cineverse Is Getting Ready To Punish The Naughty As They Reboot "SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT"

Folks from the video store generation likely have fond memories of the VHS covers that adorned the racks of the now vanished video rental store. Cover art was the determining factor that drove most renters’ behavior before Letterboxd or IMDB when all you had to go off on was what you could see on the front or read on the back, but seldom much more. This led to many folks discovering hidden gems and some absolute stinkers, but one cover would always stand out in an ocean of horror titles. “Silent Night, Deadly Night.” With the ominous image of Santa’s axe-holding hand reaching out of the chimney, it perverted all the ideas of the mythical Santa Claus and was one of the most controversial films of its time.

Luckily, controversy is something that the folks over at Cineverse know a thing or two about with their hit “Terrifier” franchise. This is why they are bringing those folks in to helm the "Silent Night, Deadly Night” remake which is slated to be released sometime late in 2025. Deadline broke the news yesterday, and you can read more about it over on their site.

“The reboot of the franchise, written and directed by Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn, V/H/S/85) and produced by Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead, executive producers of the original 1984 Tri-Star film, alongside Jamie R. Thompson and Anthony Masi, goes into production “soon”. It is currently slated for a late 2025 theatrical release.”

This isn’t the first time that “Silent Night, Deadly Night” has been revisited as there was a loose reimagining in 2012 titled simply, “Silent Night” which was largely relegated to VOD. The “Silent Night, Deadly Night” franchise as a whole is a bit of a jumbled mess with the first three films being the only ones that have any plot or character continuity. The 4th and 5th entries are in name only, and quite singular in their approach, especially the 5th film with a wild performance from Mickey Rooney. That said, maybe it’s high time that this series get rebooted, and we only hope that it will be more naughty than nice.
