Dan Trachtenberg Shares New Details About "PREDATOR: BADLANDS"!
The hunt is on and raging as “PREDATOR: BADLANDS” is set for a 2025 release and today, director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane), has chimed in with some juicy details about the galaxy’s favorite hunter, The Predator, below.
The folks over at Empire caught up with director Dan Trachtenberg and turned his ear to get a few details about “Predator: Badlands” and this news has us stoked. The main protagonist for the flick you ask? A Predator! Yep, the good guy for this new flick is a skull-collecting alien we all love.
The director tells the outlet: “The creature is front and centre, leading the charge,” Trachtenberg tells Empire. “He’s still badass, but there’s something there that touches you emotionally, too. Creating a character you connect with, but are also super-intimidated by, has been challenging. But exciting.”
The article does mention that Tractenberg is working on two films in the Predator universe. Predator: Badlands, which wrapped filming recently in New Zealand, and a possible animated Predator flick that is being kept under wraps at this time.
We truly enjoyed the Hulu hit film, “PREY” and if we’re not getting a direct sequel to top that flick, this is the next best thing as it will “push the franchise’s boundaries,” the director added. Tractenberg specifically didn’t want to do a sequel to “Prey” right away and is venturing into some new territory with Badlands.
The article goes on to detail the location of the new film as being entirely on an alien planet this time instead of the usual hunting ground of Earth. This can add some amazing levels of depth to the world of the Predator since we have only ever seen them in action on Earth with the exception of the 2010 flick, “Predators” which took place on a sort of hunting reserve planet and starred Adrien Brody.
Back in June, we reported that Elle Fanning (The Neon Demon, Super 8) was on board to play the lead role. Plot details are still under wraps, but the story is believed to be set "sometime in the future."
“PREDATOR: BADLANDS” is set for a November 7, 2025, release date and will be in theaters first before hitting streaming.
