'DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW' Finally Getting Soundtrack Released On Vinyl

The fine fiends over at Scare Flair Records, in partnership with Klaatu Records, have just announced hat they’ll be releasing the Glenn Paxton soundtrack for the 1981 made for television classic Dark Night of the Scarecrow on vinyl for the first time.

Scare Flair notes, “Dark Night of the Scarecrow is a 1981 horror film directed by Frank De Felitta and starring Larry Drake, Charles Durning, and Lane Smith. The film was originally meant to be an independent feature but was purchased by CBS – turning it into a made for television film. The film was released on Saturday October 24, 1981 – as part of their Halloween line-up – and was very well received by critics and audiences. Dark Night of the Scarecrow is credited to have started the horror subgenre of the killer scarecrow.

“Despite being a made for television film, it got a VHS release through Key Video in the mid 80s, as well as a DVD and Blu-ray in 2011. The film was screened as part of the Texas Frightmare Weekend in 2010 to much fanfare and was shown on The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs on Shudder on June 31, 2023.”

The vinyl will feature the full score with bonus tracks, brightly colored 140g movie tie-in vinyl, liner notes by composer Glenn Paxton and screenwriter J.D. Feigelson on an 11×11 double sided insert, gloss varnish added to the jacket, and album art by Luis Miguel Rojas.

Scare Flair will have a Yellow with Blood Splatter (Cornfield) variant of the Dark Night of the Scarecrow soundtrack, limited to 300 copies, available at www.scareflair.com.

Klaatu Records will have an Orange with Yellow Splatter (Blood Harvest) variant, which is limited to 200 copies, available at www.klaaturecords.com.

Both records will go on sale on Thursday July 20 at 10AM (CST).
