Disney+ Bringing KING KONG To Life In New Live Action Series Produced By James Wan!

There’s a brand new King Kong project in the works over at Disney+, being reported by Deadline, with James Wan‘s Atomic Monster on board to produce a live action series for the streamer.

The project’s working title is simply “King Kong,” and Deadline notes in their report that it will be a “serialized action/adventure drama that brings the classic monster story into the modern age, with a return to Skull Island and the dawn of a new Kong.”

Stephany Folsom (“Paper Girls”) is writing the series, which will “explore the mythology of King Kong’s origin story and the supernatural mysteries of his home based on IP from Merian C. Cooper’s original books and the new King Kong novelizations by Joe DeVito.”

Deadline goes on to explain in tonight’s exclusive report, “The Merian C. Cooper Estate had teamed up with artist Joe DeVito to produce new novelizations that are being used as source material for the series, along with the original book IP.”

Stephany Folsom is also on board to executive produce alongside Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster and Dannie Festa for World Builder Entertainment.

From what we can gather, this King Kong series is NOT connected in anyway to the already established Monsterverse that brought us Godzilla Vs. Kong or the upcoming Godzilla series from Warner Bros. Over at WB, he is simply known as “KONG” so we shall see where this new offshoot goes.
