Don't Panic Yet: A24 Has NOT Pulled The Plug On 'Friday The 13th' Prequel Series "CRYSTAL LAKE"
Rumors swirl around the internet like a turd that just won’t get flushed and one that got a lot of attention was that A24 had pulled the plug on the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake. Well, we have some news for youse, it is indeed not dead in the water yet.
Jeff Sneider reported in his newsletter The Insneider late last night that A24 has “pulled the plug” on the “Crystal Lake” series, which was due to begin filming sometime this year.
Sneider writes in last night’s exclusive report, “It’s unclear whether this is a permanent decision or a temporary one, as A24 had no comment. Perhaps Peacock will help the trades shed more light on this project, which was announced back in 2022.”
According to Bloody Disgusting’s sources, A24 has NOT killed off “Crystal Lake” at this time. Who those sources are…we’re pretty sure its A24 themselves because we know how panic mode sets in on horror fans when shows or movies get pushed back.
Now this isn’t to say that some retooling and rework on the series needs to happen and thus will cause a delay in the shows original premier date, that’s totally normal for any production.
Peacock had given the project a straight-to-series order in 2022, with “Crystal Lake” being described as an “expanded prequel” to the original Friday the 13th franchise featuring both Jason Voorhees and his mother, Pamela Voorhees.
What was even more badass is that original Friday the 13th final girl Adrienne King had even signed on for a recurring role in the planned A24 television series. That was where they had us by the machete of sorts, eager to know more.
Bryan Fuller was to serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer, with Victor Miller (who penned the original classic) producing with Marc Toberoff, Rob Barsamian, and A24.
We had also heard that Kevin Williamson (Scream) was on board to direct an episode as well.
Either way, just like Jason Voorhees himself, it looks like Crystal Lake is not dead yet.
