'EVIL DEAD RISE' Director Teases That Bruce Campbell Is Hidden Somewhere In The Upcoming Movie
Now before you get all overly excited, we need to stress that one thing you will NOT be seeing in ‘EVIL DEAD RISE’ is Ash Williams aka “The Chosen One” from the other Evil Dead films and ASH Vs. Evil Dead.
And for what it’s worth, Bruce Campbell has made it very clear in recent years that he has retired from playing the character in the world of live action. But Campbell does have a small cameo in the new movie…
Speaking with Empire this week, director Lee Cronin teases that Bruce Campbell is “hidden in the movie somewhere” – and if you can find him, you may just win some money.
“It felt like in order to move the franchise somewhere new and to unlock the potential of the universe to tell more stories, it needed to break free [of Ash],” Cronin tells Empire.
He adds, “But Bruce is hidden in the movie somewhere. Bruce has a small presence in the movie. The first person to figure it out and send me a tweet, I’ll give them 50 bucks.”
So make sure you keep your eyes and ears peeled for that cameo when you go see ‘Evil Dead Rise’ next month.
Director Lee Cronin’s (The Hole in the Ground) Evil Dead Rise is coming exclusively to theaters on April 21, 2023. Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence), Morgan Davies (The End) and Nell Fisher (Splendid Isolation) star alongside Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for Evil Dead Rise…
“In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert are producing Evil Dead Rise. According to Campbell, the three have been “very involved” in the project every step of the way.
