FRIDAY THE 13TH: Court Case Grants Original Films Rights To Screenwriter Victor Miller - ONLY In The U.S.A.
Let’s be real. The Friday The 13th franchise has hung in Horror limbo for a long time. It does look like, as of today, one major court case has been decided for the franchise.
Friday the 13th Part 3 star and entertainment lawyer Larry Zerner has been keeping fans updated on the progress of the messy legal battle over the franchise’s rights that’s pitted Sean Cunningham/Horror Inc. against original screenwriter Victor Miller.
As of this writing, Victor Miller is officially the owner of the rights to Friday The 13th…but there’s a few catches…
But what does this mean for our boy Jason Voorhees? It’s complicated. If both sides agreed, it would have been a wash and Jason, in adult form, could be used in future films. But, that doesn’t look like the case…
Victor Miller could allow a studio to produce a Friday the 13th remake, but it could only be released in the United States is our basic understanding of this whole thing. The other aspect is that Cunningham can use adult Jason in any form he wants for a new film and doesn’t have to get the approval of Miller.
The hope here is that the two parties can come to some sort of agreement and move forward together, otherwise, it’s going to be exceptionally hard to find a workaround to the legal ramifications.
Will we see Jason rise from Camp Crystal Lake anytime soon? Time will tell…
