'HALLOWEEN KILLS': A SPECIAL “HORROR FILES” PODCAST ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION
Hi, my name is Dana and I’m a podcaster. When I am not writing reviews for MacabreDaily.com, you can find me hosting my own horror review podcast, The Horror Files, available on Spotify, Google Podcasts, and Audible. I am not only a horror movie fan, I am a huge HALLOWEEN fan (both the holiday and the film franchise, respectively).
Since its release in theaters and the streaming service, Peacock, on October 15, 2021, HALLOWEEN KILLS, David Gordon Greene’s follow-up to his successful 2018 sequel, HALLOWEEN, has been the subject of much passionate debate online. Both critics and audiences have been intensely divided on the film, which currently sits with a Rotten Tomatoes “tomatometer” score of 39% and a 67% audience score.
David Fear of RollingStone.com stated in his review that, “ As with so many middle parts of proposed trilogies, Halloween Kills feels designed to get you from Point A to a future Point C. It forgets, however, that a middle chapter still has to work on its own, and that stranding fans, completists, casual moviegoers, etc. in a weak-link entry runs the risk of permanently turning people off of the whole endeavor.” Sandra Hall of the Sydney Morning Herald praised the film, saying, “This one shows no reduction in the blood-letting and those who appreciate a garnishing of gallows humor with the gore will find Myers' modus operandi as ingenious as ever.”
With such vehement feelings from both critics and horror fans alike, what better way to tackle reviewing HALLOWEEN KILLS than a roundtable discussion format? To help me make sense of the most recent entry in the HALLOWEEN canon, I enlisted none other than our own fearless Editor-in-Chief, Samuel Santiago, as well as IG Horror Reviewer, Rich Harris, who runs the @SlashInTheAttic Instagram account. In the episode, we deliberate both the highs and the lows: from the stupidity of mob mentality, the artistry of a Michael Myers death tableau, to our expectations for the forthcoming HALLOWEEN ENDS, and everything in-between.
You can check out the episode now on Spotify, Audible, Google Podcasts, or on PodBean.
