'HELLBOY: THE CROOKED MAN' Officially Confirmed With Mike Mignola Writing

A few days back, rumors started to swirl that a new Hellboy film was going into production and now we can officially confirm that it is indeed true with Millennium Media developing a new live-action Hellboy film, and confirmed by Deadline today.

Brian Taylor (Crank, Gamer, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Mom and Dad) has been chosen to direct the movie for Millennium, currently titled Hellboy: The Crooked Man.

Production is starting next month in Bulgaria, Deadline reports. The story is said to “expand Hellboy’s world through one of the most beloved issues of the comic series.”

“The new film will see Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. There, they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.”

Of particular note, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola wrote the script for Hellboy: The Crooked Man alongside Christopher Golden, which gives this project serious credibility.

“The Crooked Man is a departure from all previous Hellboy films where Mike Mignola and the creator of the comics will finally shepherd an authentic version of his stories and characters in film form,” said Millennium Media’s President Jeffrey Greenstein. “This is the first in the series of films that will captivate audiences in familiar (and new) ways. Brian Taylor is an expert across the board, and I couldn’t think of a better person to bring this story to life to show our audience this different and original Hellboy slate of films.”

Millennium Media is producing the new movie alongside Dark Horse Entertainment.
As of yet, we have no news on who will be playing “Big Red” after Ron Perlman or David Harbour, but we will let you know once we find out.
