Listen Up: "The Dead Hour" is Upon Us (Review)

Terror Films enters the horror TV world with their new anthology series: “The Dead Hour.” From the minds of Daniel B. Iske and Scott Coleman, The Dead Hour is a radio show hosted by the alluring, and pretty demented, DJ Raven (Melissa Holder). We are presented with twelve tales of the macabre, each episode with a different storyline and cast.

With titles such as "Alcoholic Vampire" and "Android Bride," this series is sure to have something for everyones horror-loving heart. The originality of The Dead Hour stands out from the crowd, this isn't just your basic ghouls and goblins. As someone who loves a good anthology series, I was thrilled to see the different dynamics and depth throughout the episodes.

One episode in particular titled "Fame" really left me with an unsettling feeling, in the best way possible. We are introduced to Cara, an aspiring actress who is trying to get her big break in the industry. When her agent isn't getting the job done, she decides to take control of the situation herself. She meets a director who tells her that this could be "the role of a lifetime" if she decides to take it. Alas, something that sounds too good to be true, usually is. Will Cara's fifteen minutes of fame be worth her life?

Another episode that I had to mention is "Fright Fest." Frankie and Finch are on their first date which happens to be an all-night horror movie marathon at the local theater. Frankie is all in, but Finch is a little hesitant. While watching the first film, Finch notices a ghastly woman standing in the theater who has an uncanny resemblance to the woman in the film. She shrugs it off at first as the figure disappears into the darkness, but when she turns around to survey the crowd, the woman is now sitting in the seat behind her. Frightened, Finch storms out of the theater as Frankie follows after her. Trying to keep her cool, Finch decides that they should go watch the next film.

As they take their seats, Frankie asks the man sitting in front of them "What did we miss?" He responds with "the standards: full moons, howls, and the guy with the monstrous secret." Seconds after, the man in front of them starts transforming into a full-on creature of the night, or in this case a werewolf. They ultimately realize that they got more than they bargained for as the characters in the film were coming to life right before their eyes and murdering the theater patrons.

The Dead Hour premieres worldwide on May 12th and will be streaming on various platforms such as Tubi, Kings of Horror, and Amazon.

Will you survive all twelve terrifying tales?
