Mike Flanagan Is Taking "CARRIE" To The Prom With New 8-Part Mini-Series
Old things are new in this day and age and word has just gotten to us that Stephen King’s earliest novel, “CARRIE”, will be getting a brand new eight-part mini-series on Amazon and Mike Flanagan (Haunting Of Hill House) is heading this new take on our favorite telekinetic teen.
Per a report from Deadline, the duo of Stephen King and Mike Flanagan are bringing King’s earliest novel back to life for the small screen. This has us feeling very nostalgic as in the early 90s, King’s work was taken and turned into “made-for-TV movies” that rocked us to the core. “IT”, “The Shining” and “The Stand” were all turned into TV films back in the 90s and we truly felt these adaptations were far better than some of their theatrical counterparts.
Deadline notes that “Flanagan and Trevor Macy will be the executive producers of the series.”
It seems that Stephen King stories are getting a bit of a renaissance of sorts as Gary Dauberman’s Salem’s Lot was just released on streaming and Edgar Wright (“Shaun Of The Dead”) is slated to bring a new version of “The Running Man” to the big screen as well. So there will not be a shortage of Stephen King stories being told for a new generation to get creeped out to.
“Carrie” was Stephen King’s first published novel and it truly catapulted the author into the horror elite with his writing and downright scary takes on religion and a coming-of-age story. The book was then turned into a major motion picture in 1976 which starred Sissy Spacek as Carrie and John Travolta, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, Betty Buckley and William Katt also starred.
No word yet on a release date but we are expecting more news shortly. Stay tuned!
