Thanks to the folks at Giant Films, “The Birthday” has received a brand new 4K restoration that premiered at this year’s Fantastic Fest in Austin. Drafthouse Films’ latest release is a coming-of-age teen film. With vampires, of course. “Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person” is a dark comedy about Sasha (Sara Montpetit), a vampire who can’t kill, and Paul (Félix-Antoine Bérnard), the suicidal teen she bonds with. Québécois Director Ariane Louis-Seize (along with co-writer Christine Doyon) has crafted a debut feature with heart and blood. Even though it’s not her first language, Louis-Seize was gracious enough to speak to us in English. She talked briefly with us about “graduating” from making short films, writing from various points-of-view, and eating clowns.

In rural Spain, a suicidal woman encounters a dirty and disheveled little girl just before she plans on jumping off a bridge to her her death. Her maternal instincts override her suicidal urges as she drives off with the girl to get her help. They are immediately stopped by local police, who are summarily murdered by the little girl, who, by the way, has telekinetic powers. Then the credits start. This is the first scene of Drafthouse Films’ new release “Everyone Will Burn.”
