'THE EXORCIST' Reboot Halts Production Due To Health Scare; Looking To Resume Early Next Year

David Gordon Green is directing a reboot trilogy for ‘THE EXORCIST’ for Universal, Blumhouse and Morgan Creek. The first film in the trilogy will be released theatrically on October 13, 2023, and recently began filming. Today, Deadline is reporting that the film has unexpectedly halted production.

Deadline writes, “Sources cited an unspecified health issue involving Leslie Odom Jr., who stars alongside Ellen Burstyn, reprising her role as Chris MacNeil from the original 1973 movie.”

The site describes the shut down as “an early and not cost insignificant” situation. The report adds, “They hope to have [Odom Jr.] back along with the rest of the cast in January.”

The first plot details we were provided with last year tease, “Odom Jr. will play the father of a possessed child. Desperate for help, he tracks down Ms. Burstyn’s character.”

Ann Dowd (Hereditary) is also on board to star in next year’s sequel.

Could the new film face some of the superstitions and issues the original did for its cast and crew? We will let you know as news develops.
