It looks like the “ghost with the most” will be returning from the grave, as Deadline has confirmed from an initial report by The Ankler, that Plan B, Brad Bitt’s production company is attached to BEETLEJUICE 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 1988 hit supernatural comedy, which starred Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder.

MD first reported on the rumblings of a sequel back in 2014 (under our previous Truly Disturbing moniker), when Keaton talked to MTV about plans for a return to the character: “I’ve e-mailed Tim [Burton] a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff.”

Deadline reports that the sequel, which has long been percolating at Warner Bros., “...remains in early development, with the script yet to be written. No other attachments have been disclosed at this time.”

The original BEETLEJUICE was directed by Tim Burton, and follows the story of a dead couple (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) who get more than they bargained for, when a family from the city move into their home. Determined to rid the house of the family, they hire a lewd, obnoxious, and pernicious spirit named Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) to drive the family out.

The film was produced by The Geffen Company, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, and starred Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and Glen Shadix. The film grossed nearly $75 million worldwide and won the 1989 Oscar for Best Makeup.

Plan B Entertainment was founded in November in 2001 by Brad Grey, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, producing such Oscar-winning films as The Departed, 12 Years a Slave, and Moonlight.
