Coming Home For The Holidays Is Horrific In "YOU ARE NOT ME" (TRAILER)
As Mariah Carey defrosts to unleash her treacherous brand of holiday music on us all it must mean one thing, Christmas is coming. The joys of Spooky Season give way to the merry cheer of the holiday season filled with hyper-consumerism, overeating, and of course spending time with family. The last part of that list may give some reason to shudder or smile, depending on how well you get along with your respective family members, and it is one of the reasons why the holiday season is also the most stressful. One of the few things that can make visiting family even more difficult, is finding out that you may have been replaced.
That is the premise behind “You Are Not Me,” a new horror film from Marisa Crespo and Moisés Romera. Check out the trailer and synopsis below to get a sense of why this particular trip home for the holidays may be one of the most horrific. “You Are Not Me” is being released by Doppelgänger Releasing and will be hitting select theaters and VOD on December 6, 2024.
Synopsis
Aitana returns home for the first time in three years, excited to introduce her wife and their adopted infant son to her extended family and celebrate Christmas together. The family villa in the Spanish countryside is exactly as she remembers – except for the addition of Nadia, a Romanian refugee who has claimed Aitana’s bedroom, her clothes, and her family heirlooms. Why have Aitana’s conservative parents, long suspicious of immigrants, embraced the mysterious Nadia with such uncharacteristic warmth? Is Nadia a shrewd usurper, or an unwitting vessel for darker forces spreading across the land? A twisty thriller that locates the uncanny in the reflexive cordiality of the holiday season, YOU ARE NOT ME is a dark and disturbing dispatch from the most irrational realm: family.
