Event Report: MONSTERPALOOZA 2023 Brings All The Monster Kids Out For A Great Convention

What can be said about Monsterpalooza that hasn’t been said about it 100 times over by the drooling masses waiting to experience it every year? Let’s face it, Monsterpalooza is California’s version of Spooky Empire or Texas Frightmare. Sure, there are other horror conventions in California but not quiet like Monsterpalooza.

We can’t put our finger on it but as far back as we can remember attending the event (way back in 2009) our memories have always been good ones. People and vendors are genuinely friendly and even the major guests who attend to sign your autographs and take picture upon picture with raving horror junkies, are in a great mood.

From the moment you step inside the Pasadena convention center, you feel like you’re just welcomed with open bloody arms. From the SPFX teams working away to show you what monstrosities they can conjure up in no time to the vendors selling their goth jewelry and that limited edition boxed set of Eerie Indiana (we still can’t find one), the event is a whirlwind of impressive art pieces and collectors items galore.

2023’s edition of Monsterpalooza was no different that years past and we really feel the folks running it have found a perfect recipe for success. Yes both Robert Englund and Bruce Campbell, who were originally booked to do signings and autographs, had o bail due to scheduling conflicts and Covid, the teaming gaggle of horror hounds didn’t seem to mind as thousands of them descended onto the Pasadena convention center this past weekend.

Fans of all things horror and sci-fi saw the latest works by companies like Trick Or Treat Studios, The Stan Winston School, and many many more. You could hear screams of joy and fright all throughout the convention center as guests met their favorite scream queens like Fairuza Baulk and Barbra Crampton. there was even a mini Hocus Pocus and What We Do In The Shadows cast reunions. Various panels on SPFX makeup and the work that goes into making your favorite monsters were taking place as well.

While roaming the halls of the event we saw adult and child alike having a great time seeing all the masks, makeup effects demos, and spooky artwork on display. Below you will find some of our favorite things we saw while attending Monsterpalooza this year and we hope to see you at the event next year.
