Geena Davis Reveals Why She Did Not Return For Tim Burton's 'BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE'
Although Geena Davis starred in the original Beetlejuice, there's a good reason why she's not in the sequel.
Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and even Catherine O'Hara are all reprising their roles from Beetlejuice in director Tim Burton's upcoming sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Which hits theaters on September 6th, 2024. Yet, there are two major characters from the first film NOT returning. Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin as the Maitlands. Davis has spoken out about why she won’t be in the hotly anticipated sequel.
"No, I'm not. I'm not in the remake," Davis told Entertainment Tonight. "Oh, you were expecting that I would be? Yeah, no, you know what? Because my theory is that ghosts don't age... Not that I have... Our characters were stuck the way they looked when they died forever, so it's been a while, it's been a minute."
If you recall in the first film, the Maitland's tragically died in a car accident near their home, which they haunted before and after the Deetz family moved in. Keaton's title character also tried to trick the Maitlands into unleashing him on the Deetz family, especially once he fixated on Lydia Deetz (Ryder). But by the end of the film, the Maitland and the Deetz families peacefully co-existed in the house.
No word on what Alec Baldwin has to say about the sequel but we’re guessing he’s pretty busy with that whole “wrongful murder” suit he has against him.
