MACABRE DAILY GOES TO HORRORHOUND WEEKEND 2022 (EVENT RECAP)

2022 is the year the in-person event makes a comeback, and horror fans far and wide are being treated to the sweet smell of vendor halls, hotel conference chairs, and a lot of cosplay. This year, the fine folks at HorrorHound were gracious enough to invite us to attend their annual horror ho-down in the fine city of Cincinnati.

My wife and I recently moved to Cleveland from NYC and the drive from Cleveland to Cincinnati is about 4 hours give or take. This was the first year I’ve personally been to a HorrorHound weekend of any kind. I was eager to see how it compared to other cons I’ve attended such as Mad Monster AZ, Monsterpalooza, Son of Monsterpalooza, and NYCC. Needless to say, I was not disappointed, and between some fantastic panels and intimate signings along with supporting friends of the site FredHeads: The Documentary as they world premiered their love letter to ANOES fans (watch our interview with the filmmakers here). Check out the recap video and the photos below, and thank you again to the team at HORRORHOUND for putting on such a great event and weekend!

Cosplay

I think it’s a safe bet to say that Michael Myers was the most cosplayed character of the weekend. With HALLOWEEN ENDS coming out in less than a month, it makes sense that we would see so many iterations of the famous slasher, especially with JAMES JUDE COURTNEY in attendance over the weekend.

Here were some of our favorite cosplays we caught while we were there:

Art the Clown doesn’t know I’m pissing myself right now…I hate clowns

Shout out to the Real Ohio Ghostbusters for their outstanding costume work!

While Part 7 isn’t my favorite F13 film, this Part 7 cosplay is tops!

Even though I hate clowns, I love Killer Klowns….why am I like this?

Respect for the dedication to this massive and spot on pyramid head cosplay from Silent Hill

A match made in Texas…

Celebrity Guests

What would a convention be without some celebrity sightings? I was fortunate enough to meet quite a few folks and even get some stuff signed. Doug Jones is the sweetest man alive, and Vanessa Shaw told me the most amazing story about Stanely Kubrick while they worked together on EYES WIDE SHUT.

All 3 of the Chiodo Brothers were in attendance for the Killer Klowns reunion. They even brought along a lot of unused concept art and were so generous with their time talking to whomever walked up.

Doug Jones is my hero.

The Hocus Pocus panel was a delight!

Omri Katz (Max from Hocus Pocus) was as nice as could be!

Vanessa Shaw had such wonderful things to say about one of my favorite filmmakers, the late Stanley Kubrick.

Ron Perlman is a living legend!

Great to show support for the HorrorHound film festival creatives!
