Zack Snyder's "ARMY OF THE DEAD" Universe Officially Dead At Netflix?

Zombies are not a new field for director Zack Snyder. He popped up on the scene for horror fans when he remade George A. Romero’s DAWN OF THE DEAD in 2004 and then returned to the genre in 2021 with the film ARMY OF THE DEAD” over at Netflix. There were plans for a whole “Dead” universe on Netflix but now a report from The Wrap indicates that these plans are probably dead.

There are two films on Netflix in Snyder’s “DEAD” universe. “Army Of The Dead” and its prequel “Army of Thieves” but we could have had more. A while back we told you all about the planned sequel to Army of The Dead - “Planet of The Dead”, and there were even talks of an animated tie-in to these films as well. Today, that all changes.

The Wrap has reported in a new interview with Snyder about his Sci-fi opus, “REBEL MOON” for Netflix that the “Dead” Universe has all been scrapped.

The site says: That the animated series was quietly canceled, along with plans for subsequent films. Zack said, “We are very ambitious with everything.” And “Army of the Dead” isn’t entirely dead, as Deborah Snyder pointed out that there will be a themed experience coming to the Six Flags theme parks this Halloween. “It’s going to be a really cool experience,” she added.

So things aren’t entirely dead for the Snyder zombie franchise as was mentioned above, but it does look like the only way we will see anything new for “Army of The Dead” will be to visit Six Flags during Fright Fest.

We hope that Snyder decides to come back to the zombie genre but as of this writing, it looks like things aren’t moving forward.

We will update you on any new developments as we get them.
