Mario Bava's Disturbing "RABID DOGS" Is Getting A Remake...Again, Original Producer Attached
Mario Bava’s shocking, cut throat flick, ‘Rabid Dogs’ (1974) was remade in 2015 by French director Éric Hannezo. Now the film is getting a English language remake with Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore penning the screenplay, writes Deadline.
The site notes that the team has acquired the rights to the 1974 film which follows a botched bank robbery and the three violent criminals who do anything they can to not go to prison. Hostages and chaos ensue.
“The U.S. scribes have been working out the original film’s sexist tones to reimagine the film as a present-day thriller and the first in a trilogy,” add the site.
The film’s original producer Alfredo Leone is aboard as exec-producer.
“Samuel and Evan are bright and have creatively mapped out an exciting new way to breathe new life into this film,” stated Leone. “To modernize it as an action-packed thriller. Something Mario would have loved. I can’t wait to see it come together.”
“We love thrillers, and this story has got a final plot twist that really shakes you. It’s genuinely shocking, and we’re excited and honored to be given the keys to remaking this classic, and to partner with Mr. Leone,” added Kilgore.
The film will begin production in 2022 with a 2023 release date. Franco will also produce. Franco and Kilgore will write and Kilgore is an ex producer.
