Marvel has been keeping fans at a distance when it comes to details around season 2 of “X-MEN 97” but news has just reached us that Marvel has confirmed a 2026 premiere date. That plus more below.
90s kids everywhere rejoiced when news hit that Disney+ would be bringing the original X-Men animated series to its streaming service. This was amazing news and had us watching old episodes of the series we haven’t seen in years like it was 1994 all over again. Then Disney and Marvel gave us news that an updated X-Men animated series was on the way, “X-MEN 97”, and boy-howdy did fans lose their mutant-loving minds.
The first season of “X-MEN 97” did gangbusters for Disney+ according to a report from Deadline last year with 4 million views on the streamer for the show’s premier alone. This was a major accomplishment as “X-MEN 97” unseated Marvel’s “What If…?” as the top animated show on Disney+. Now the hype train is set for season 2 of “X-MEN 97” and fans have been waiting for any details but patience is a virtue as Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum has confirmed season 2 for a 2026 premiere.
"Season 2 of X-Men ‘97 is going to be in ‘26. We're working on it now," Winderbaum tells Collider. "It's exciting. That world of the ‘90s is just… Honestly, I can't believe they let me make it. I grew up at Marvel, as you know, clocked a lot of time here, and I feel like I used a lot of currency to revive this thing that I loved watching after school. So, the fact that we get to play in that universe with those actors is honestly why I went into this business in the first place."
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS
"A band of mutants use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them; they're challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future. New Episodes, New Era,"

Winderbaum was pressed a bit more about “X-MEN 97” and gave additional details regarding other animated projects and whether or not an X-MEN animated film could materialize. He told Collider:
"It's all in the preliminary. As you know, we're developing more than we make, so I don't want to announce anything before it's ready. But there's hopefully some exciting stuff on the horizon."
In all honesty, if the show is still being written, 2026 is probably an admiral projection for getting everything done for season 2. Producing and creating an animated show takes a lot more time than even a regular theatrical film or TV series so we don’t expect any more than hype for the next few months.
