Producer For MORTAL KOMBAT 2 Says Filming Will Get Back Underway Very Soon
2yrs ago now, we got a pretty good Mortal Kombat flick. It was a hit with fans and HBO’s streaming service MAX. Like clockwork, after the films release, news broke of a sequel in the works as well. Filming on Mortal Kombat 2 actually kicked off earlier this summer, you may recall, but it didn’t last long due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes going on at the time.
Don’t fret though MK fans, it looks like production will be revving up once more for the live action sequel.
Responding to a report this week that suggested Mortal Kombat 2 will begin filming in early 2024, producer Todd Garner notes on Twitter that it’s actually kicking off even sooner.
“This is not true. We are filming before then,” Garner teases.
He writes in a follow-up tweet, “I promise I will keep the MK Kommunity posted as soon as I have info on start date, etc. EVERYONE else is just speculating… or posting for clicks.”
Simon McQuoid returns to the director’s seat for Mortal Kombat 2, which will feature a screenplay by Jeremy Slater (“The Exorcist,” “Moon Knight”).
The cast of fresh faces for Mortal Kombat 2 includes Martyn Ford (“The Sandman”), Desmond Chiam (“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”), Ana Thu Nguyen (Suka), and Damon Herriman (House of Wax, The Nightingale), alongside Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Tati Gabrielle as Jade and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana.
In addition to Lewis Tan as Cole Young, returning cast includes Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, and Max Huang as Kung Lao.
