"28 YEARS LATER" Star Ralph Fiennes Confirms Two Of Three Films In The Trilogy Have Already Been "Shot"
It’s been nearly two decades but with the 28 Days Later franchise seeing a resurgence with 28 YEARS LATER on the horizon, Ralph Fiennes (The Menu, The Grand Budapest Hotel) is getting everyone eager for what has happened to humans and the world during a two-decade-long zombie apocalypse.
Some new plot details and info have dropped after 28 Years Later star, Ralph Fiennes was interviewed by our friends at Indiewire. The 2x Oscar nominee let loose some pretty solid information on the project and had the following to say:
“It’s three films, of which two have been shot,” Fiennes told IndieWire. That’s some major news right there as the original writing/directing team of Alex Garland and Danny Boyle are attached to the first film, 28 YEARS LATER.
The plot details began to flow in the interview and Fiennes reveals the following: “Britain is 28 years into this terrible plague of infected people who are violent, rabid humans with a few pockets of uninfected communities. And it centers on a young boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother. He leads his mother through this beautiful northern English terrain. But of course, around them hiding in forests and hills and woods are the infected. But he finds a doctor who is a man we might think is going to be weird and odd, but actually is a force for good.”
Many wondered if 28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy, would return in this new installment of the franchise and yes it has been confirmed he will return as Jim and also serve as an executive producer on the flick. The first film was made for a little over $8 million but pulled in a whopping $84.6 million at the international and domestic box office when all was said and done. We’re surprised it took so long to capitalize on the franchise again but it does give the sense of “how will you miss us if we never go away” feel that brings “infection” movies back to the forefront at the theaters.
28 YEARS LATER is set for a June 20th, 2025 release and we will bring you all the news you need leading up to it.
