ARROW FRIGHTFEST ANNOUNCE 2022 LINE UP; OUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR

The U.K.’s most popular and prestigious horror and fantasy film festival, FRIGHTFEST, returns in 2022 with a veritable heterogeneity (yes, it’s a word - - look it up here) of world premier’s and all-star guests including, but not limited to, NEIL MARSHALL (writer/director of DOG SOLDIERS and THE DESCENT) MARK KERMODE (writer/movie critic/broadcaster) and DARIO FUCKING ARGENTO (if you need me to tell you who that is, you’re on the wrong website, kid).

Here’s our pick of the pops for what you should be keep an eye out for come August;

TERRIFIER 2

The much anticipated sequel to writer/director DAMIEN LEONE’s 2016 TERRIFIER sees DAVID HOWARD THORNTON return to the role of Art the Clown, who has been resurrected by a sinister entity in order to wreak havoc on Miles County once again.

DARK GLASSES

DARIO ARGENTO returns for his most distinctly Italian sounding thriller in years. Diana (ILENIA PASTORELLI), who has recently been blinded in a car accident, teams up with a young Chinese orphan named Chin in order to track down a vicious killer. I am confident that any racial sensitivity where Chin is concerned will have been considered and then unceremoniously discarded.

THE LAIR

No promotional poster for writer/director NEIL MARSHALL’s first original horror project since 2020’s THE RECKONING exists currently, however it looks to be as much of a brutal and stomach turning gore frenzy as we’ve come to expect from the man who gave us the splendid DOG SOLDIERS, THE DESCENT, and the criminally overlooked DOOMSDAY. The story centres on Royal Airforce Pilot Kate Sinclair (CHARLOTTE KIRK) who, after being shot down over Afghanistan, finds herself taking refuge in an abandoned bunker which houses some rather nasty squelchiness…

CULT OF VHS

ROB PRECIADO’s feature-length documentary explores the curious and nostalgic lure of the VHS tape, and features interviews with collectors, film directors and VHS enthusiasts as they take a trip down memory lane and take us through their first experiences with the medium and what it meant to them.

Expect weirdos.

MIDNIGHT PEEPSHOW

Again, no promotional poster seems to exist for ANDY EDWARDS and AIRELL ANTHONY HAYLES’ anthology horror movie about a man who stumbles into a darkly magical peepshow booth, but given that a) I love anthology horrors, b) I like saying “portmanteau”, and c) I don’t see how you can’t be fascinated by the descriptor “a twisted portmanteau threesome exploring the nightmare side of psychosexual fantasy.”, I figured this was worth the mention.

Juicy.

———————————————————————————————————

Of course, there are more goodies on offer over the duration of the festival, and more than likely a respectable handful of titles which I haven’t mentioned, so you can look up the rest of the details by visiting Arrow’s website here.

Weekend passes for the festival are available now, with day passes available from July 23rd.
