'BARBARIAN' Scores $10 Million Box Office Win This Weekend For Original Horror

Horror fans always clamor for “original horror.” Well, studios take a big gamble on Original Horror sometimes due to not having an established pull at the box office. It’s a basic, “test and find out” type system but this weekend for the new film ‘Barbarian’, it paid off.

Don’t complain to us about there being “not any good original horror films out there,” You’re just not looking hard enough. Horror fans showed up in droves, propelling yet another horror film to the top of the box office with a $10M opening. Blumhouse’s ‘THE BLACK PHONE’ dominated the box office and proved, without a shadow of a doubt, that Original Horror can and will take over the box office.

In Barbarian, which will likely land on HBO Max following its VOD release, a young woman (Georgina Campbell) traveling to Detroit for a job interview books a rental home. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double booked, and a strange man (Bill Skarsgård) is already staying there. Against her better judgment, she decides to spend the evening, but soon discovers that there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.
