END OF FEBRUARY ROUND UP: Looking Forward to Blood, Sex, and Toxic Jesus.
The future looks pretty exciting, with a broad variety of quirky and talented comics coming in the next few months.
The Unsinkable Ship of Fools Graphic Novel
First up is the first 2025 project from Iron Circus Comics, “The Unsinkable Ship of Fools”. Written and illustrated by breakout artist Jonas Goonface, it is a tale steeped in supernatural fantasy, mystery, suspense and romance, in a fabulously filthy art style.
Freaks, geeks, or mangey misfits, no one is too strange for “The Unsinkable Ship of Fools”! With no boss to answer to, and no brakes to stop their course, creature comforts and carnal bliss are all that remain to the cast of colorful vagabonds aboard the train. Through a series of magical erotic encounters, this ragtag group of castoffs must find the answers to the mysteries of the raucous, anarchic locomotive: where is it going, who’s driving this thing?
Boasting 250 pages of full-color supernatural erotica, this rail-punk paperback offers unexpected and devious delights to enjoyers of all genres, including explicit sex scenes, feral fantasies, and truly unique characters with a plethora of body types, genders, orientations, and ethnicities rarely featured in erotic works.
“The Unsinkable Ship of Fools” is currently available via their Kickstarter campaign, which is now in its final week. So, if this sounds like it’s on your track, best get in soon.
The Toxic Avenger Pinup Special/The Toxie Team-Up #1
A double-dose of the Toxic Avenger is coming, with both a Pinup Special, and the sure-to-be-controversial debut issue of a new miniseries featuring a team-up of Toxie and Jesus.
In mid-May we’ll see “The Toxic Avenger Pinup Special”, followed in June by “The Toxie Team-Up #1”, written by Mark Russell, drawn by Richard Pace. Set to be an ambitious mini-series that will find Toxie rubbing elbows with characters from several other fan-favorite AHOY titles, including Jesus Christ (from the pages of Russell and Pace’s controversial “Second Coming”), the Jersey Devil (from the creature-packed anthology “Project: Cryptid”), Acid Chimp (from Russell, Bryce Ingman and Peter Krause’s absurdly hilarious “My Bad”), Dragonflyman and Stinger (from Tom Peyer and Jamal Igle’s multiversal saga “The Wrong Earth”), and Swamp Cop and Schitt (from Bors’ and Ben Clarkson’s satirical smash hit “Justice Warriors”).
This looks like everything fans of the franchise love, both audacious and controversial, but also a good jumping-on-point for those that missed the recent miniseries.
“The Toxic Avenger Pinup Special” - on sale May 14.
“The Toxie Team-Up #1“ - on sale June 11.
Blood Type #1
Finally, for mid-June, is the first issue of an EC Comics spinoff series “Blood Type #1”. Drawing from the pages of “Epitaphs From The Abyss #3”, Hugo Award-nominated writer Corinna Bechko (“Cruel Universe”, “Green Lantern: Earth One”) and Eisner Award-winning artist Andrea Sorrentino (“Gideon Falls”, “Old Man Logan”) re-visit the immortal vampire Ada. Her misdeeds landed her on the doorstep of an idyllic Caribbean resort. An island paradise teeming with wealthy tourists and superstitious locals; an ample food supply for the thirsty vamp looking to get away from it all. However, as Ada stalks the boundaries of her new hunting ground, she'll soon become embroiled in a deadly game of cat and mouse by moonlight as an older, wiser, and entirely different kind of predator reveals its own carnal hunger for greed and power.
Readers can rediscover the short story for Ada’s first appearance on the pages of “EC Presents Blood Type #0”, which is Oni’s 2025 Free Comic Book Day release by Bechko and artist Jonathan Case (“Green River Killer”).
“Blood Type” is intended to be the first in a new slate of semi-regular EC Comics limited series that will spotlight and continue a select few of the razor-sharp short stories introduced in the pages of EC’s monthly anthology titles, be they horror, science fiction, fantasy, or more.
Looking like a good, ambitious new title, with the possibility of some intriguing lore framed by some classically predatory vampire fare.
“Blood Type #1” - on sale June, 18.
