James Wan's MALIGNANT Scares Up Only $15 Million World Wide
James Wan’s new film Malignant was the talk of the horror community this weekend when it was released in theaters as well as streaming to HBO MAX. The film has only made just $5,570,000 in 3,485 domestic theaters. This may look like a big number but this is the lowest domestic opening of Wan’s career. Internationally, Malignant has scrounged up just under $10 million to date, with the film’s worldwide total currently standing at $15,070,000.
The production budget for Malignant is a reported $40 million, so it’s unlikely to make back what it needs to in theaters alone. Truth be told though, if this film becomes a cult hit(which it is very much looking that way) we could see some big numbers on the home video release.
As of this writing Malignant is #3 at the box office. We will see what the theatrical run ends up making for the film but we highly doubt it will reach the mark.
