"PHALLACIES" Brings A New Kind Of Exploitation To Horror
It’s not a secret that horror is a bit biased when it comes to sexuality. More often than not, especially in previous decades, the genre has been infamous for being one of the proponents of “the male gaze” in cinema. Hell, many careers were built off the mantra of “boobs, blood, and beasts”, but the objectification of women and females is a part of horror history that cannot be ignored. It often begs the question, why don’t we see more exploitation films that focus on the masculine rather than the feminine? Especially as it relates to male genitalia.
Thank goodness for the collective of filmmakers who are aiming to change this with their upcoming production, “Phallacies: The Movie”. Friend of Macabre Daily, Jon Devlin, is one of the main creative forces pushing for more penile representation in horror and has teamed up with filmmakers worldwide to tell a different kind of horror story. Check out the press release and exclusive stills below. If you’re keen on following and supporting the production, just visit their website!
In Europe there is a certain Domiziano Cristopharo, and in the United States a certain Jon Devlin...but what do they have in common? Well, both of them, in their respective geographic areas, have been nicknamed "PENIS GUY," given their natural propensity to use nudity as artistic expression...and the clash/encounter was sooner or later inevitable, and it spawned PHALLACIES - the movie.
Art and cinema have always been not only forms of entertainment, but also a social mirror for messages and revolutions; today, censorship has been abolished to make way for a disturbing sense of moralism, which is forging minds toward self-castration in order to survive: Amazon and Barnes&Noble have started banning the sale of artistic nude books, censorship of video platforms has hit after Youtube also Vimeo, and (most insane and frightening) there are factories that refuse to print magazines or Blu-rays with explicit content... DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS?Not only is freedom of expression in general at risk, but the end is being decreed for all independent artists and small labels that do not want to follow mainstream policies. With the bans imposed by Facebook and Twitter even just talking about Horror brings posts down in the feed, making them invisible. PHALLACIES - the movie is not just a movie: it is a collective of rebellious artists who put not only their souls into what they do... but also their bodies, since always and this time even more so (and it is SIGNIFICANT that the filmmakers also ACT in their segments).
11 short films ranging from extreme to gore, animation to quirky comedy and disturbing drama:the theme? The penis. No censorship, no moralism: PHALLACIES is the first DICKSPLOITATION film ever made.
Why this theme? The connection that bigoted and well-thinking European audiences make between nudity and eroticism has its basis in a millennial process that began in the West with the birth of the Catholic Church, an institution for which sexuality was to be lived only according to certain norms of behavior and treated only in the context of marriage for procreative purposes. It will be difficult to show photos of the film, clips or trailers on social media... so follow the project on the website, which also has a fun XXX section.
